Cardinal Cartridge, Inc.
MYOB Customer Cardinal Cartridge, Inc. is now a two-time Inc. 500 winner. Last spring, we profiled successful toner cartridge remanufacturer and MYOB Premier Accounting user Cardinal Cartridge, Inc., who at that time had been placed on the small business magazine’s Inc. 500 list of fastest growing privately held American companies. Cardinal Cartridge was riding the crest of a 967 percent growth rate over a five year period – an illustrious achievement for a company that only 6 years earlier had been unprofitable and up for sale by it’s previous owner.
This autumn, Cardinal Cartridge has made the Inc. 500 winners list once again, with $13.7 million in revenue and a 540% growth rate from 1998 to 2002, according to Inc. magazine. They’ve also revamped their website and moved their operations to a larger facility.
"It's an honor to achieve an award that is indicative of all of our team's hard work to achieve the goals of Cardinal," says Lee Ferry, President of Cardinal Cartridge, of the magazine distinction. To qualify for the award, Cardinal Cartridge had to fulfill a number of requirements, including having had sales of at least $200,000 in 1998 and having had an increase in sales from 2001 to 2002. Cardinal Cartridge’s ranking was based on their 540 percent growth rate from 1998 to 2002.
There is a lot of hard work behind the prestigious awards at the Cardinal Cartridge plant, which recently moved to a larger facility. Lee and company recently revamped their website, primarily to help prospective customers request quotes and order cartridges online. “We’ve been receiving at least one quote request a day,” says Lee, who outsourced the coding to an experienced website developer, but developed the content himself.
Along with the ability for customers to get quotes and place orders, the Cardinal Cartridge website contains a wealth of other resources. For example, you can read the FAQ on doing business with Cardinal Cartridge (e.g. “New Cartridges vs. Manufactured – What’s the difference?), or find tips on caring for your printer.
Cardinal Cartridge recently doubled the size of their operations facility by moving to a new 30,000 square foot space. This move enabled the company to up OEM, laser and ink cartridge production capacity to 75,000 units per month, as well as expand their service department and add new products.
“The move is exciting,” says Lee, “since six years ago we were in a 3,000 square foot building. We have also increased our sales department by 7 people. We are expecting great things for the future.”
Cardinal Cartridge facilitated the move by over-producing cartridges in the weeks leading up to the move, as well as advising customers of their plans, calling them to make sure they would be okay supply-wise.
Results Achieved with MYOB
Along with continuing to make use of MYOB Premier Accounting’s ODBC capabilities to link their books directly to their shipping software, Lee is looking forward to the new features.
“We plan to use the new form design features, along with the new reports and credit card processing. I am continually pleased by the product. MYOB Premier Accounting is a strong part of our operation. We live and die by its reliability and functionality,” Lee says. “We have become expert users and would recommend the program to others who need a low-cost, effective solution, rather than spending $15,000 or more on another system.”
